Tembotrione is a new active ingredient,belonging to the bleaching class of her -bicides, which is used for the control of broadleaved and grass weeds in theproduction of corn (brit.maize). It exertsits herbicidal action through inhibition of the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvatedi oxygenase (HPPD) (Moran, 2005). Ap-plication of 75-100 g a.i./ha gives a veryreliable cross-spectrum weed control, in-cluding key grass species such as foxtailsand woolly cupgrass. It is also effectiveon the toughest broadleaved species, in-cluding glyphosate-, ALS- and dicamba-resistant weeds. Tank mixing with otheractive ingredients such as atrazine offersan even better (and more specific)graminicidal action.

To improve the crop tolerance, all formu-lations include the safener isoxadifen-ethyl.
